When Live and Georg first contacted me about their wedding day in Norway, three words in particular stuck with me: Stavanger, the sea, and sola ruinkjyrke. And I new instantly that this was a wedding I would love to be a part of. The fact that the couple is some of the kindest, most positive, fun and energetic people I have ever met was a fantastic bonus. I felt valued, trusted, and welcome every step of the way.
After spending a week in Norway driving alone from Oslo, to Nesbyen and then exploring Hardangervidda and Folgefonna National Parks (which you can read all about here) I reached Stavanger the day before the wedding. I joined the couple and their families at Live's childhood home right on the cliffs of Hellestø Strand where their reception would be held, and I knew with certainty it would be an amazing day. The couple share my deep love of the natural elements and life by the sea, come rain or shine. And as it turned out, we would see both sides the following day, making my job both challenging and beautiful.
After spending a few hours with Live and her family and girlfriends at the house, I drove five minutes north to Sola Strandhotel where Georg was getting ready with his friends.
Then we headed up to Sola Ruinkjyrke, a beautiful location with a spectacular view of the sea below, from inside the church.
As I stood outside, waiting for Live and her father to arrive, the clouds started to gather...
And half-way through the ceremony it started pouring down outside. The dark sky made my job very difficult, but the mood and atmosphere inside the church was incredible.
Since nobody was eager to go out into the rain everyone gathered at the door, waiting, and everything got really quiet. People didn't quite seem to know what to do, and I am sure quite a few people felt sorry that it was pouring down on their wedding day. But not Live, after a few minutes of awkward silence, she threw her arms in the air, screamed 'juhuuu' in pure joy, and the mood lifted instantly, people laughed and clapped and came over to congratulate them :)
Back at the house, the chefs and staff from Bølgen & Moi had prepared a lovely reception for the guests
Since the rain kept falling we decided to do a few portraits under one of the roofed terraces on the other side of the house...
But when it finally cleared a bit and dinner time was getting closer and closer, we decided to make a run for it and head to the beach below.
Live had executed her vision of a beach inspired nordic celebration to perfection. The beautiful invitation was diy but the seating cards and menu was done by Brown Linen Design.
Time to party!!!
